As Brisbane prepares to host the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the city is undergoing a generational infrastructure transformation designed not just for the Games, but for Queensland’s long-term future. Central to this vision is the 2032 Delivery Plan, a comprehensive roadmap to ensure readiness for the Games while fostering enduring benefits for communities across the state.

The crown jewel of the Brisbane 2032 Games will be the newly proposed 63,000-seat Olympic Stadium in Victoria Park, just outside the Brisbane Central Business District (CBD). This stadium is slated to host the Opening and Closing Ceremonies and all athletics events. Post-Games, the stadium will become a state-of-the-art venue for major Queensland sports teams, replacing the historic Gabba.

The decision to build this stadium in Victoria Park came after a strategic review found refurbishing the Gabba to be cost-prohibitive and disruptive. The site was selected for its proximity to transport, hotels, and city infrastructure which is a practical location to accommodate global visitors and athletes.

However, this decision has sparked debate. Environmental groups have voiced concern over the significant loss of green space in Victoria Park. While government estimates suggest 12–13% of the park will be used, independent modelling claims up to 58% of the green space could be impacted.

The 2032 Delivery Plan: Building Queensland’s Olympic Future

The 2032 Delivery Plan outlines how Brisbane and wider Queensland will be transformed to accommodate the Games. With an estimated $7.1 billion in capital works, it is the most ambitious infrastructure rollout in the state’s history.

With a national target of 50,000 new homes to be built every year, combined with major infrastructure projects like hospital developments and Olympic facilities, the demand for skilled carpenters has never been greater. Queensland is right at the heart of it all.

Across the state, we’re seeing the pipeline of work stack up fast—residential, commercial, and large-scale public projects are all moving ahead at pace. This boom presents a huge opportunity for those looking to build a crew or expand their operations. Whether you’re a sole trader ready to take the next step or a growing business eyeing new contracts, now is the time to act.

There’s a strong push to get quality trades on-site and keep timelines on track. That means more chances to step into long-term, meaningful work that makes a difference—whether it’s putting families into homes, helping deliver critical health facilities, or playing a part in shaping Olympic venues the whole country will be proud of.

Thinking about building a crew in Queensland? The timing couldn’t be better.
