The Queensland Government is undertaking a significant transformation of its healthcare infrastructure through the Queensland Hospital Rescue Plan, a $9.785 billion initiative aimed at delivering over 2,600 new hospital beds across metropolitan, regional, and rural areas. This ambitious plan includes the construction of new hospitals and the expansion of existing facilities to meet the growing healthcare demands of the state’s population.

The plan aims to deliver approximately 2,220 additional beds from 2024 to 2028, with an additional 289 beds through the Accelerated Infrastructure Delivery Programme between 2023 and 2024.

The Coomera Hospital is a cornerstone of the Queensland Hospital Rescue Plan, designed to cater to the rapidly growing population in the northern Gold Coast corridor. Initially planned as a 404-bed facility, recent assessments have indicated the need for at least 600 beds to adequately serve the community.

Construction commenced in late 2023, with major structural milestones achieved, including the pouring of concrete foundations. The hospital is projected to be completed in the second half of 2027.
